My Perfect Every Day Foundation

This post stars the one and only, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation!

So let me give you the low down about my skin; it's pretty normal, not too greasy and not too dry and this is consistent over the whole of my face.

In the past I've always avoided foundation. I've always found it hard to get a good colour match to my skin and have been scared of getting the dreaded cake face! I've also in general hated the thick feeling of foundation on my face, and was always conscious of it being there. However, the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua has conquered all of those fears for me!

I am currently using the shade Beige 10.

Although some would say that this isn't an important factor when buying makeup products, I really love the sleek, compact packaging this foundation comes in. Unlike a lot of other high end foundations it comes in a plastic packaging not glass, which is so much more practical for travelling with and stops you worrying that your foundation is going to smash all in your bag! I love the Chanel two white C's on top of the black lid, it looks so classic.

However, one down side to this packaging is that it doesn't come with a pump. This isn't too much of a problem with the plastic packaging as it allows you to squeeze the product out easier, but with glass it can some times be a bit of a challenge. I've actually grown to like there not being a pump as I think it allows me to control how much foundation comes out at once, stopping me wasting some.. and lets be honest, with this being priced at £33 I don't want to waste a penny of it!

This foundation has an SPF of 15, which is a good amount for daily use and when the weather isn't sunny it means I don't have to worry about applying additional sun cream (which I hate).
When foundations have SPF in them sometimes they have the worst flashback in photos that make you look like a ghost! But when using this with flash photography I've found that it photographs beautifully so there's no need to worry about that!

The texture of this foundation is very water like, as the name 'aqua' would suggest. Before you use this product you have to give it a good shake or some water residue comes out. Because this foundation is water like, it is very light weight on the skin which is very important aspect for me as I don't mind it being on my face, in fact when applied it makes my face feel really soft and smooth.
I would say that the coverage this foundation gives initially is light (which is my preference, as I like my skin to look as natural as possible) however it can easily be built up to a medium coverage without looking/feeling cakey if you're having a bad skin day. Chanel describes this to be like a 'second skin' and I can definitely vouch for that.
The finish is dewy, which I love! When I apply this I think my skin looks really lovely with a healthy glow. I've found that even when I powder this foundation, the dewy finish still remains and it doesn't look too matte.
In terms of longevity, I think this lasts well without a primer underneath but if I was going to wear this for a night out as an example, I would probably put a primer underneath to make sure it stays 100% in place.
A downside of this foundation could be that the shade range is heavily aimed towards people with a light - medium skin tone, and doesn't cater for the darker tones. However, that being said, if you're pale like me this foundation matches perfectly, which sometimes can be a struggle.

Chanel say that the best way to apply this foundation is by using your fingers, but I personally prefer to use a brush as I think it gives a much more, even, flawless finish. My favourite brush to use with this is the Real Techniques Buffing Brush, and I apply it in circular motions to make sure the product is nicely buffed into my skin. This brush has dense bristles that are soft, and I feel like no product is wasted by it sinking into the bristles of the brush.

  1. This looks amazing! I haven't used this foundation but I really want to put this on my christmas list! The shade looks perfect!

    1. You definitely should it really has the most beautiful finish! X
