Post Christmas Blues

After Christmas, were all familiar with that sad feeling, another Christmas gone and a whole year until the next. For me, not only was it the day after boxing day, but the day I go back to work after my little Christmas holiday. To cheer myself up I thought I'd write a little post about my recent trip to London and enjoy the festivities one more time before it's time to put it to bed for another year.

Covent Garden
Our first point of call was Covent Garden, which is always a favourite places of mine to visit whenever I'm in London. The tree in CG this year was gorgeous, and absolutely massive! Every year they change the reindeer display, this year they went with a sparkly silver one. To accompany this, there was an amazing sleigh (equipped with reindeer) made completely out of lego! As always, the apple market was decorated with the giant red baubles, a traditional and classic touch. Another reason I was desperate to head down to CG was the establishment of their new high end beauty quarter; with the recent opening of a new Bobbi Brown and Clinique stores it has become a bit of a beauty heaven. It was really busy when I visited so I am yet to go in and have a proper nosey in the new stores but it is definitely on my to-do list in the near future!

Beauty Stores in Covent Garden: Burberry, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Dior, Clinique, Urban Decay, L'Occitane, Aveda, Aesop

 Somerset House
We stumbled across Somerset House pretty much by accident, and it was the nicest unexpected addition to our trip. At this time of year it's renowned for it's beautiful ice rink, which I did not attempt as I am bambi on ice! Inside the house, each room was it's own little section of a shop filled with the most unique treasures from tea, to baubles to teddy bears. Ian and I decided to pick out a special bauble for whenever we move out - a cute little tradition of ours has been born here. When you step out onto the balcony, you have the most picture perfect view of the embankment pier and the London eye lit up in blue!

Kensington Gardens
If you're looking for a relaxing place to go for a stroll in London, then Kensington Gardens is the place.. that's if you don't mind being followed and swarmed by squirrels! These cute little fellas were everywhere, so I couldn't resist pointing my camera at them. It was all fun and games until one of the more cheeky ones decided that it wanted to jump on me, as if I was a tree! If you're looking for a more scenic route to go visit Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, then this is perfect. If you follow the park through you end up crossing into Hyde Park and the back entrance to Winter Wonderland (score!).

Arbor Hotel
We stayed in the Arbor Hotel, and let me tell you it was a pleasure. The staff were lovely and welcoming, gorgeous spacious rooms with a huge bed and complementary macaroons, you can't go wrong! I would definitely recommend staying here if you fancy treating yourself. Although we did have quite the shock around 1am when a high pitch car alarm went off in the middle of the night, but that's a story of it's own!
